Special Educational Needs

Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) at Whipman Woods Flying High Academy

Whipman Woods is a mainstream primary school, which caters for pupils with a wide range of needs. This includes pupils with identified special educational needs, and those who have a specific medical need or disability. We are an inclusive community and we value and respect each other’s differences. Staff know the children, their background, their needs, achievements, social contexts and individual journeys and this enables a personalised approached to learning, stretching beyond the classroom.

Special Educational Needs and inclusion at Whipman Woods are always a priority and bespoke provision is planned for and provided to ensure that the needs of all our children are met. We believe passionately in helping every child reach their potential and have high ambitions for all our children. This is achieved through our inclusive culture, quality first teaching and bespoke approach to individual needs.

We believe that strong partnership between children, parents, school and other agencies will enable children's needs to be met with success. We share a whole school responsibility to ensure all children are given the opportunity to achieve their full potential.

Our Special Educational Needs and Disabilities coordinator is Mrs Gibb. You can contact her via the school office on 0115 989 1915 or by email jgibb@whipmanwoodsfha.co.uk. Alternatively, if you are a current parent, you can contact her via Class Dojo or by chatting to her on the playground.

 The Local Offer

The SEND Local Offer is a resource which is designed to support children and young people with special educational needs and/or disabilities and their families. It describes the services and provision that are available both to those families in Nottinghamshire that have an Education, Health and Care Plan and those who do not have a plan, but still experience some form of special educational need. The SEND Local Offer includes information about public services across education, health and social care, as well as those provided by the private, voluntary and community sectors.
